One For The Road

A trek around the world in search of "The Irish Pub" and  telling the stories of the people on both sides of the bar.

Synopsis:

The Irish Pub has long been the hub of many towns and villages in Ireland. It was a place where people could go and have a good time, share stories and woes, but also strengthen bonds and foster a sense of community. Although the Irish pub has moved out of those towns and villages to much farther afield, the reasons people still go to them have not.  Today the Irish pub can be found as far as Thailand, Antarctica, Peru or Mozambique, but it still offers that same sense of community and fun, to not just expats who may be missing home but to some who have never even set foot in Ireland. The programme will cover each continent. It kicks off in South East Asia and travels to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos meeting the people on both sides of the bar and find out about their lives and reasons for working and drinking in an Irish bar. We  talk to the owners who have made a living out of bringing the Irish pub to a much larger audience. For the rest of the series the team will travel to North and South America, Middle East, Canada, Africa, Antarctica, Japan, China and then a little closer to home in Russia and Europe to find out how the Irish pub is regarded and what it means to people who frequent them.
